“Human is Not Limited to Flesh …”

… says Martine Rothblatt, an American lawyer, author, and entrepreneur. I would add “futurist” and “borderliner” – both in a very positive sense. I’ve never met somebody who is so clear and precise about the future, which is so far away from most of us! Borders are something which doesn’t seem to exist in her life.

Our topics: transhumanism, consciousness of machines, immortality, transgenderism … and of course WE, what does all this mean to our understanding of “WE”.

Thanks again Martine for your time and openness!

The interview will be transcripted and become part of we-magazine Vol. 02!

denkbar!

erlauben wir uns gedankenfreiheit!

may i point to a public debate on the limits of intelligent machines between Ray Kurzweil and David Gelernter. at the end of the discussion a student asks the profound question: “what if everything is conscious and connected and its just a matter of us learning how to communicate and connect with it” !

Martine is stunningly clear and straight about it. consciousness is emergent and arises on many levels…

very refreshing and inspiring interview

…the amazing thing with Martine is that sheheit does as sheheit says… very admirable, and very very far out, on first sight. But wasn’t it like this with almost all technological progress?

Remember: “All truth passes through three stages: first it is ridiculed. second, it is violently opposed. third, it is accepted as being self-evident. — SCHOPENHAUER

BUT also remember: “Never forget that the human race with technology is like an alcoholic with a barrel of wine”. — THE UNABOMBR

even if only 1% of the world has ever heard of the trans humanism movement I believe that people think about it in their private imaginings. The thought and words expressed by Martine will inspire so many.

People were humans before they realized it, and thought of themselves only as members of a family, a tribe, or an ethnic group. Similarly with transhuman. We are all transhuman. As billspitalnick sees, we are just beginning to realize it.

Technology without ethics is like the alcoholic with an endless barrel of wine, so true egon zippel. It is better to be cautious, but still progressive, than to be reckless or regressive. Absent proof of ET, it is a fair bet they blew themselves up; at least some of them. Re-read the story in Steinbeck’s Grapes of Wrath of the tortoise crossing the highway. The tortoise is cautious, but progressive. Still, its adventurous nature gets it hit by a truck. It flips and spins and lands off the highway. When it ‘reboots,’ does it give up, and stay in one safe place? No, because there is no safe place forever. Diversity of everything is essential to survival, including diversity of location. The tortoise looks about, and continues its progressive march.
